Over 900 families in Broward County are facing homelessness today. The affordable housing crisis has been a crushing blow even to working families who are struggling to make ends meet. One crisis after the next can deplete savings quickly and getting behind on rent can spiral to eviction.
HOPE South Florida partners with Broward County, to assist these families with short-term rental assistance and support services to quickly return them to permanent housing. The first step for many of these families is to seek refuge in our Crisis Housing located right on our HOPE campus. This temporary home allows families to stabilize and work alongside one of our Family Advocates to secure sustainable, permanent housing.
This unique program offered through HOPE and Broward County is driven by negotiations with landlords from the community and local churches who are willing to participate. Grant funding from Broward County, United Way of Broward County and family foundations, plus financial support from donors, help cover the typical first, last, and security costs of up to $6,000. With HOPE South Florida backing the family, landlords have assurance of payment.
Depending on the grant, in some cases a family can also receive up to an 80% subsidy on their monthly rent while our housing specialist and case managers work to help them increase their income.
This unlocks a whole new future for families in crisis while pairing them with the support and friendship of the HOPE South Florida community.
