ABOUT US

Homelessness is a life event. Not a life sentence.

HOPE South Florida is a Broward County nonprofit, providing families in need with tangible solutions to restore their independence so they can thrive in our community.

At our core, we are a homeless services nonprofit focused on providing housing and re-housing services to families in our South Florida community.

On any given night, thousands of people in Broward County are without a place to call home.

Our Mission and Purpose

On any given night, thousands of individuals in Broward County experience homelessness.

And it’s not just limited to adults. As of April 2026, over 4,300 children and teens are without stable housing in Broward, often spending the night in the back seat of a car instead of a warm, comfortable bed.

Our vision is to end homelessness in Broward County by building HOPE-filled communities that empower families to become resilient and independent. We strive to provide dignified, compassionate care, keep families together and equip those we serve to pursue a path of holistic life change.

OUR HISTORY

We’ve provided faith-based love and support to Broward County residents for more than 30 years. Here’s how we’ve grown over the years.

1995

Local veterinarian Dr. Fred Scarbrough began a housing ministry called The Shepherd’s Way in Broward County.

2010

The Shepherds Way became HOPE South Florida with the support of Calvary Chapel Fort Lauderdale, Christ Church, Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church, First Baptist Church of Fort Lauderdale, First Presbyterian, Mt. Bethel, Rio Vista Community Church and United Methodist Church.

2016

Thanks to the support of our generous donors and relentless volunteers, HOPE expanded its services to include Shared Meals, Mobile Showers, Medical Care, and Rapid Rehousing.

2023

Calvary Chapel Fort Lauderdale announced its expanded partnership to further propel HOPE South Florida into new ministry opportunities.

PRESENT

HOPE has served more than 270 families and continues to be a beacon of compassion and support to men, women and children in Broward County.
