From Homelessness to Independence

All homelessness doesn’t begin with unemployment. Across South Florida, rising housing costs and financial emergencies can cause even working families to struggle to meet their basic needs.
And when you’re supporting a family of 8, it becomes even more of an uphill battle.

This was a chapter in the Waller family’s story when they first came to HOPE South Florida. After the arrival of their newborn, they were experiencing homelessness and urgently needed safe housing that could accommodate their whole family.

Otherwise, their family would face separation.

Our quadplex was the refuge they needed during their time of crisis, but the Wallers didn’t stop there.
Mr. Waller worked hard to regain financial stability. And with the help of their Family Advocate here at HOPE, the Wallers were soon able to secure their own apartment. They moved in during the midst of the Holiday Season and enjoyed the miracle of waking up in their own home, all together on Christmas morning.
“HOPE picked us up at just the right time,” said Mr. Waller.
